Real Ingredients

Completely Transparent. We have no secrets about the things that matter to pets and their parents, not even our coveted recipes.

Chicken Thighs

Chicken thigh meat is a very tasty and excellent source of protein that is packed with essential B vitamins and minerals like iron, phosphorus, zinc, selenium, and niacin, which help optimize a healthy metabolism. It is often overlooked that chicken thigh meat delivers more vitamins and minerals than its white meat counterparts.

Long-grain enriched white rice is an easily digestible grain that is fortified with B complex vitamins to help break down food into energy and support red blood cell health. It’s also loaded with essential minerals, like iron, calcium, magnesium, manganese, zinc, copper, and selenium, which are needed for both a healthy nervous and immune system and are also very important for maintaining strong and healthy growing bones (or skeleton).

Spinach is a fiber-packed leafy green that is rich in vitamins and in particular, beta-carotene, which is a precursor to vitamin A and is very important for healthy vision. Spinach is also a great source of magnesium, manganese, and zinc, which aid in maintaining healthy hormones, bodily functions, and immune health.

Carrots are an excellent low-calorie source of beta-carotene as a source of vitamin A, which is great for maintaining healthy vision. Carrots are also a great source of fiber and vitamins C and K, which help immune function and blood clotting. Carrots contain potassium as well, which is an important electrolyte involved in hydration.

Apples are not only delicious but also high in antioxidants and fiber. We always core our apples before including them in our diets.

Chicken gizzards are low in saturated fat and sodium. They are a very good source of protein, vitamin B12, iron, phosphorus, zinc, and selenium, which are great for digestion. Chicken gizzards are also rich in cartilage, which may be helpful for joint health.

Chicken liver is a nutrient-dense food that is high in iron, vitamin A, copper, folate, riboflavin, and niacin. These all help support digestion and the immune system and nerve, bone and joint health.

Icelandic premium fish oil provides omega-3 fatty acids in highly biologically available forms of EPA and DHA. Omega-3 fatty acids are important for maintaining healthy skin, a shiny coat, and brain development during growth.

The JustFoodForDogs Nutrient Blend is formulated specifically for each recipe to meet AAFCO recommendations. The blend is compounded from 100% human-grade nutraceuticals regulated by the FDA.

All of our daily diets for dogs have passed AAFCO protocol feeding trials at Cal Poly Pomona. In fact, the trials conducted at the university were much more stringent than the AAFCO protocol standards, as the Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC) of the university found the AAFCO feeding trial to be too rudimentary. The reality is our diets have passed trials that exceed AAFCO standards. JFFD is the first pet food company ever to conduct humane feeding trials at a major university using faculty and student dogs living happily in their own homes. Most pet food companies do not run trials at all and those that do tend to use laboratories that house beagles that live their lives for animal testing. Like everything we do at JFFD — we did it a better way! Learn more about our feeding trials here: A One of A Kind Partnership.
